2020 TIP Report
Last month, the U.S. State Department released the 2020 Trafficking in Persons Report (TIP Report). This annual report ranks countries in tiers that reflect their degree of government efforts and capacity to deter and reduce human trafficking. The TIP Report is an exceptional tool to analyze trafficking and slavery around the world.
"The call of the 20th anniversary is clear. We must commit ourselves to our goal of freedom. What traffickers are doing is an affront to the dignity of every human life, and we can stop traffickers, protect victims, and work to prevent this crime." - Ambassador John Richmond
Here's what you need to know:
Instability and lack of access to critical services caused by the pandemic mean that the number of people vulnerable to exploitation by traffickers is rapidly growing
Our team is working to increase our outreach capabilities to help meet this need
In the Countries where we operate, only the United States & the Philippines fall into Tier 1
Tier 1 includes only countries whose governments fully meet the minimum standards for the elimination of trafficking
Though the U.S. works rigorously to combat human trafficking, the TIP report identifies that there has been a decrease in both the prosecution of traffickers and the efforts to protect trafficking victims and survivors
