A Spark of Hope from our Sanctuaries
In this time of uncertainty, we want to bring you stories of hope from the young women in our Sanctuaries around the world!
A Dream of Snow
When our International Director, Max, met Arya* at our Mumbai Sanctuary, she was on her fourth year of learning English. One day, she brought in a postcard depicting a girl lying in the snow. She said that when she was a young girl, a woman visited her aftercare home and told her that she was going to Switzerland to see snow for the first time. She told Arya that she had learned English and saved up to fulfill this dream, and that if Arya worked for it, she could do the same.
A month later, Arya received a postcard from the woman of a girl lying in the snow. Arya kept that postcard since she was a girl, and made it her goal to go to Switzerland one day and lay in the snow. When Max told her that she didn't have to go all the way to Switzerland to see snow, Arya told him that it didn't matter, she knew where she wanted to go. She was determined to make her dream a reality. Real hope is not easily extinguished.
You've Got Mail
We launched a new Pen Pal Project in India to run from January to March. We want to expose our participants to people within and outside the community, with whom they can learn and share their thoughts. In an age of Social Media and Whatsapp writing, it is great to challenge them to connect, reflect and share in this traditional way. 20 artisans in India have been paired with safe pen pals, including two young women in our Orange County Sanctuary.
Leadership Conference
Earlier this month, the women in our Tijuana Sanctuary were invited to attend and sell their jewelry at a women's empowerment conference in Tijuana. They enjoyed the wonderful speakers and had their first opportunity to sell Purpose jewelry, bringing much excitement and pride.
