Human Trafficking in the United States

The National Human Trafficking Hotline operated by Polaris Project is a vital resource for identifying and helping victims and survivors of human trafficking in the United States of America. They recently released the “2019 U.S. NATIONAL HUMAN TRAFFICKING HOTLINE STATISTICS”, and we wanted to share the highlights with you.

In 2019, the National Human Trafficking Hotline identified:

  • 22,326 trafficking victims & survivors

  • 4,384 traffickers

  • 1,912 suspicious businesses

  • 8 in 10 survivors identified as female

  • 20% increase in survivors self-identifying

“Victims and survivors of sex and labor trafficking know their situations and their needs better than anyone and when they themselves reach out to us, we are in the best possible position to help. These numbers are a positive sign that the message ‘help is available’ is getting to the people who need to hear it most.” – Megan Cutter, Acting Director of the National Human Trafficking Hotline
